I agree with Mike on this, Im a cool dad and have a few snakes, my son has to make all A's on his report card to have pets of any kind, he also bought it him self and pays 12 bucks a week to feed his 2 snakes and 2 iggys. I don't pay him allowance but he earns things by doing his chores and proving that he is responsible.Dad word is LAW ! Doing the research is a good start. Unfortunately, I can do all my research on being Hugh Heffner but that don't mean i can live in his mansion! :P

all my snakes eat once a week, Im not neurotic :p but I keep charts on all my snakes 30 morphs 15 normals 8 boa morphs 4 corn morphs( what they ate, how many, size of food, shed date etc) my larger females tend to go off food every other two weeks unless I feed them large mice or gerbils as opposed to the large rats they usually eat. Balls are notorious for this kind of feeding pattern. Ive read that they can go on strike for 8 to 12 months! ( not mine :P) usually after a good shed they may want to eat. If they are cold they wont so check the temps .

Just as an update, I had to force feed the pinstripe 3 times and the spider 2wice, after that ( about a week ) all I had to do was assist the spider one more time and it seems they both got the point so a few live rat pups for 3 weeks and tonight struck and crushed adult mice, Each are putting on some good weight too! like a proud papa I am!! BTW before , and only if you have to force feed. remember patience pays off, they will fight you every step of the way. let me know if you need more advise on how to do this safely and effectively. I was going to do the baby food and tube but I AM SURE GLAD i DIDN'T HAVE TO ! WHEW!

If your dad says no, he likely has a good reason. It's his home and he makes the rules. You will have plenty of time to own pets and make your own decisions when you are an adult. But don't rush it.

You only need to put it in water if it is having trouble shedding. If the humidity in the cage is high and the temperatures are correct, then there is no need for a bath. Misting the cage with a spray bottle of water would be much less stressful for the snake.

If the snake is having trouble, then it should need no more than 10 minutes in a luke warm bath then use a wet cloth and rub the stuck pieces of shed to try to remove them. If they don't come off, try again in a couple of days.

Good luck!

Well, I don't have that problem with Cleo, but I would advise just spending quality time with it. :D

Good question, My son ( 9 ) is going through the same phase, I suggest first get a feeling at first purchase, see how the seller handles the snake, pay attention to if it is shy or could are less. Temperament comes with trust trust comes over time. Be sure to let your little guy chill out in its new home for a week or so before you start handling it. I use a snake hook to get my snakes out of their cage and then support their body until I remove them form the hook, shy snakes that pull their head away dosn't mean they are about to strike, but if it makes you comfortable go ahead and use some garden gloves until you are comfortable enough to handle them :P sounds silly but I have a tree boa I still have to use welding gloves with :P
